Hypatia /ˌhaɪˈpeɪʃə, -ʃi.ə/ hy-PAY-shə, -shee-ə, often called Hypatia of Alexandria, was a Greek mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher in Egypt, then a part of the Byzantine Empire.
John Napier of Merchiston was a Scottish landowner known as a mathematician, physicist, and astronomer. He was the 8th Laird of Merchiston. His Latinized name was Joannes Neper. John Napier is best known as the inventor of logarithms
